Moldova protects elections from Russian influence
On August 19, the Chisinau Court of Appeal temporarily restricted the activities of four pro-russian parties associated with oligarch Ilan Shor.
▫️The decision is based on a lawsuit by the Moldovan Ministry of Justice regarding the succession of the unconstitutional “Shor” party. The restrictions will remain in effect until the lawsuit is reviewed and are aimed at preventing destabilization ahead of the parliamentary elections on September 28 of this year.
These measures protect Moldova from external interference and aggressive influence, ensure transparency and fairness of the electoral process, and neutralize any mechanisms of influence from third countries.
▫️For Ukraine, this decision is an important signal regarding the neutralization of russian influence in the region. kremlin systematically uses political parties — “Trojan horses” — to undermine democratic processes and destabilize countries bordering our state.
russia is increasing informational pressure on Moldova ahead of the parliamentary elections on September 28. This is part of a campaign to maintain russia’s leverage in the region and weaken pro-European forces through discrediting the authorities and mobilizing the pro-russian electorate.
