Russia’s efforts to discredit new members of the European Commission
The Center has recorded the beginning of a russian campaign to discredit the new members of the European Commission. The main narrative being promoted is that the new European Commission will bring about a “deep political and economic crisis in European countries”.
▫️ One of the key targets of this campaign is the new EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Slovenian representative Marta Kos, who will also be responsible for Ukraine’s recovery. Russian sources are spreading conspiracy theories about matters related to the EU’s expansion and are warning of the dangers posed by further enlargement.
▫️ russian propaganda is also using the creation of the new position of European Commissioner for Defense to push the idea that the EU is transforming into a “military-political bloc,” threatening Europe with direct military conflict with russia.
▫️ Additionally, russian propaganda is manipulating narratives around the distribution of budgetary flows within the EU.
The goal of this campaign is to provoke division within the EU, discredit its institutions, and sow distrust between Ukraine and its European partners.
