russia launches AI-generated fake about “photographers near the Lavra”
russian propaganda continues to spread false narratives as part of a large-scale disinformation campaign aimed at deflecting responsibility from russia for the strike on the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra on June 15.
▫️ Pro-kremlin resources are circulating images allegedly showing photographers setting up professional equipment near the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra shortly before the attack and then supposedly documenting the fire at the religious site. Propagandists present these images as “evidence” that the damage to the church building was an “Ukrainian provocation.”
▫️ In reality, these images are fake. Analysis conducted using specialized AI-content detection tools confirmed that they were generated with artificial intelligence.
▫️ This fake is part of a broader conspiracy narrative that kremlin propaganda has been promoting following the massive strike on Kyiv, which resulted in damage to the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
Since it is impossible to deny the fact that the Lavra was damaged, russian propaganda is attempting to shift public attention through disinformation and information manipulation. In this way, propagandists seek to convince audiences that the strike on the Lavra was a “staged event,” when in fact it constitutes an obvious war crime committed by russia against Ukraine’s cultural and religious heritage.
