russia continues to spread fake news about “torture of Russians in Ukrainian captivity”
russia, amid the latest prisoner swaps, continues its disinformation campaign about alleged “mass torture of russians in Ukrainian captivity.”
▫️ russian foreign ministry spokesman rodion mironov claimed that the Ukrainian side allegedly tortures russian prisoners in “secret prisons.” mironov’s statements, “decorated” with the typical propaganda clichés of “electric chairs,” “amputations,” and “dog attacks,” provide no convincing evidence. All the accusations of “torture” are based on the words of exchanged russian prisoners, whose physical condition raises doubts about the truthfulness of these testimonies.
Such narratives have one goal: to shift the blame for war crimes from the aggressor to the victim and create a smokescreen around new evidence of russia’s crimes.
Meanwhile, the UN has recorded new cases of torture of Ukrainian prisoners of war, reporting beatings, electric shocks, sexual violence, and humiliation in russian prisons. Ukraine is openly cooperating with international organizations, while russia blocks access and conceals the conditions of prisoner detention.
