Fake about an alleged “Ukrainian drone crash on a train in Latvia”
russian propaganda outlets are spreading disinformation claiming that in Latvia, a passenger train operating on the Riga–Daugavpils route was allegedly hit by a “Ukrainian drone.”
▫️ russian sources claim that as a result of the attack on the Nīcgale–Vabole section, the engine compartment caught fire and evacuated passengers were allegedly forced to sign non-disclosure agreements. These posts are illustrated with footage of an evacuation from a train where a fire occurred.
In reality, this is a fake. The video attached to the posts is authentic, but the narrative about “Ukrainian drones” is entirely fabricated. A fire in a diesel train occurred on 5 May at Nīcgale station, but it was not related to drones. Official statements from Latvian authorities and local media reports contain no information about any UAV-related incidents that day.
russia has repeatedly created fake narratives about “Ukrainian drones” in the Baltic states. The goal of such disinformation is to discredit Ukraine internationally, portray it as a “source of danger” for NATO countries, and divert attention from russia’s own real provocations in the Baltic region.
