Amazon Intelligence Exposes New Russian Hacker Scheme
Amazon Intelligence disrupted a campaign by the hacker group APT29 (also known as Midnight Blizzard), linked to russia’s foreign intelligence service. The hackers compromised legitimate websites and embedded code redirecting some visitors to fake pages mimicking Cloudflare. Users were tricked into “authorizing” attacker devices, giving the hackers access to emails and cloud files.
▫️ This is not a one-time breach, but a systematic operation by russian intelligence. To hack computers directly, they force victims to grant access themselves—using legitimate Microsoft and Google mechanisms.
▫️ russia’s goal is to gather information on U.S. government agencies, media outlets, universities, and NGOs.
These actions are espionage tools used by the kremlin to pressure Western states. Such attacks should be seen as hybrid interference in the internal processes of the U.S. and its allies, not ordinary cybercrime.
