Moldova is purging its cultural space of russian artists
Moldova continues its consistent policy of opposing russian cultural and informational influence. The country’s Ministry of Culture has published a list of russian artists (including Basta, Morgenshtern, Nurlan Saburov, “Leningrad”, Egor Kreed, and others) whose concerts in the country are not recommended.
There is no direct legal ban on their performances, but the Ministry of Culture has officially warned organizers that they will bear full responsibility for possible consequences, and the artists themselves are likely to be denied entry at the border. This makes organizing such events economically and reputationally unjustified.
This step is part of a general strategy to protect Moldova’s national security. russian show business, even the part that tries to appear “apolitical”, has been used by moscow for years as a soft power tool to keep neighboring countries in its cultural sphere. Today, Moldova clearly labels such events as a source of potential security risks.
