russia launches a new wave of disinformation about “Ukrainian terrorism”
The Center has recorded an intensification of russia’s disinformation campaign about so-called Ukrainian terrorism.
In particular, the following fakes are being spread:
▪️ “Ukraine has 8 out of 11 characteristics of a terrorist organization — ISW.” These claims are accompanied by a video stylized as material from the U.S.-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW). In reality, no such statements or videos exist on ISW’s official platforms. The footage is fabricated.
▪️ “French intelligence services prevented more than 40 terrorist attacks at Easter, all involving Ukrainian refugees.” This fake is being spread as a supposed report by France 24. However, no such materials exist on the media outlet’s official platforms. The video is also fabricated.
The use of fake videos featuring the logos of reputable organizations and media outlets is a typical method of the russian disinformation network “Matryoshka,” which is systematically used to discredit Ukraine globally.
The goal of this campaign is to shape an image of Ukraine as a “terrorist state” in the eyes of international audiences and portray Ukrainians as a dangerous and criminalized community. Through such manipulations, russia seeks to divert public attention from its own war crimes — terrorist strikes against Ukraine that result in civilian casualties.
