russia Initiates a propaganda event at the United Nations
russia is once again attempting to use the platform of the United Nations to promote its own propaganda narratives. On February 20, at the initiative of the russian federation, an informal meeting of the UN Security Council members will take place under the title “The Information Dimension of the Ukrainian Crisis.”
▫️ The declared purpose of the event is to discuss the alleged “biased coverage” of the war by Western and Ukrainian media, which, according to moscow, has “distorted the understanding of the causes of the conflict” and “limited the possibilities for a diplomatic settlement.”
▫️ Among the invited speakers is Italian journalist Andrea Lucidi, who recently obtained russian citizenship. He systematically promotes kremlin narratives. In particular, Lucidi has publicly referred to the Ukrainian authorities as a “Nazi regime” and has denied the mass killings in Bucha. He regularly works in the temporarily occupied territories and participates in russian propaganda projects.
Through such events, the kremlin seeks to shift the focus from its own aggression against Ukraine to the information sphere, to absolve russia of responsibility by portraying it as a victim of “media manipulation.”
