russia carried out a large-scale cyberattack on Poland’s energy infrastructure
At the end of December 2025, Poland was on the verge of a massive blackout due to a targeted cyberattack on the energy sector. This was stated by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digitalization of Poland, Krzysztof Tchórzewski, who also reported russia’s involvement.
▫️ According to him, this was the most serious attack on the country’s energy infrastructure in recent years, aimed at leaving citizens without electricity. Power stations and renewable energy facilities across the country were targeted.
▫️ Krzysztof Tchórzewski stressed that russia no longer needs tanks or aircraft – “digital tanks are already here”. The attack took place in difficult weather conditions, which were intended to exacerbate its consequences.
Poland managed to repel the cyberattack, but the very fact of the incident indicates an escalation of russia’s hybrid aggression against EU countries. Cyberattacks are part of the hybrid war that russia is waging against all of Europe, not just against Ukraine.
The Center previously reported that russia systematically uses cyberattacks as a tool of pressure on European states.
