How Kremlin imposes film propaganda on russians
Last year, propaganda films funded by russian state once again massively failed at the box office.
Out of 35 films made with funds from the russian state cinema fund, only four films recouped their costs at the box office. The vast majority of such films are created solely for propaganda purposes, featuring the heroization of the russian army, including the so-called “heroes of the special military operation,” and cultivating hatred towards Ukrainians and Western countries. At the same time, the artistic qualities of such films are not a priority for russia.
Despite propaganda films failing at the box office every year, kremlin does not abandon the strategy of imposing ideological film products on citizens. Producing more and more propaganda films each year, moscow systematically restricts russians’ access to films that do not contain propaganda narratives.
