Fake about “Ukrainian refugees who robbed the Louvre”
russian propaganda spreads a fake about the alleged detention by the French police of two Ukrainian refugees for stealing valuables from the Louvre.
The publications use real photos, but they have nothing to do with France or the Louvre museum. In fact, these pictures were taken in Poland, and the men in the photos were detained for attempting to steal a tractor. Also, the photo clearly shows the Polish police uniform with the inscription POLICJA, not the French one, which should say Police Nationale.
French law enforcement or media have also not reported on the “detention of Ukrainians for robbing the Louvre.”
Such disinformation campaigns pursue one goal — to discredit Ukrainian refugees in Europe and create a negative image of Ukrainians.
The Center has repeatedly debunked fakes about Ukrainians in Europe. For example, earlier hostile propaganda spread lies that a tourist who broke a Van Gogh chair encrusted with Swarovski crystals in the Palazzo Maffei museum in Verona was Ukrainian.
