The pro-government media in Belarus and russia have launched an information and psychological special operation to discredit the Ukrainian government and the Armed Forces of Ukraine. They accuse Ukraine of conducting illegal reconnaissance activities using UAVs over the Brest military training ground on January 24. As evidence, they are actively disseminating satellite images of the Brest training ground, where joint military exercises between russia and Belarus are currently underway, allegedly taken from the UAV’s memory card. The main goal of this information and psychological special operation is an attempt to stir up social tension in Ukraine and cause internal political chaos in the face of a possible offensive.
Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry called the Belarusian demarche another provocation and stated that “Ukraine did not use UAVs on the border with Belarus.” The Foreign Ministry also called on Minsk “not to play along with russia’s destabilizing actions.”
