Environmental disaster in Crimea: how Putin plays the “kind tsar”

The head of the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin, has openly criticized the performance of government agencies and ordered the creation of a task force to address oil pollution in the Black Sea. It took the Russian dictator nearly a month to make this “decisive move” – the same amount of time that has passed since the fuel oil tankers crashed in the Kerch Strait.

By acknowledging the seriousness of the issue, Putin is now attempting to shift the blame for the failure to address the consequences of the oil spill onto officials through such statements.

The Russian authorities have wasted invaluable time needed to contain the oil spill. The magnitude of this environmental disaster is the result of the occupiers’ inaction and negligence.
