Why Putin summoned Pushilin to the Kremlin
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin met in the Kremlin with Denis Pushilin, head of the occupation administration in Donetsk region. The gauleiter reported numerous “achievements” that sharply contradict the reality in the temporarily occupied territories.
Pushilin claimed that 64 buildings with nearly 5,000 apartments had been completed in Mariupol to compansate for housing destroyed by Russian bombings. In reality, the city’s housing losses are at least ten times higher, and many residents can’t get the compensation from the occupiers and are forced to live in half-ruined buildings.
He also boasted of a 30% increase in “DPR” revenues in 2024. However, it is well known that the occupied part of Donetsk region has no self-sustaining economy—its so-called “revenues” come entirely from direct Russian subsidies.
The Kremlin uses these reports of “development and stability” to distract from real problems and create the illusion of effective control over the occupied territories.
