Why Lukashenko sent propagandists to the TOT

A delegation from Belarus visited the occupied territory of the Zaporizhzhia region to meet with local gauleiters. The delegation included Vadim Gigin, Ryhor Azarenok, and Sergei Lushch—well-known Belarusian propagandists who openly support Russia’s war against Ukraine.

▫️ The main topic of discussion was the prospects of economic and trade cooperation between Belarus and the occupied part of the Zaporizhzhia region. However, if the goal was truly economic cooperation, Minsk would have sent a delegation of government officials rather than propagandists and politicians.

This indicates that the real purpose of the visit was not economic but propaganda and political maneuvering. For the occupiers, it is crucial to create the illusion of “international support,” while for Minsk, it serves as a way to demonstrate loyalty to the Kremlin without involving economic entities that could face international sanctions.
