russia launches a new wave of AI-driven manipulation on sensitive social topics
The Center records a rapid increase in AI-generated videos presented as “satirical” or “humorous,” but which actually reproduce russian propaganda narratives. In these clips, artificial intelligence models fictional scenarios designed to discredit the mobilization process, the Armed Forces, volunteers, government bodies, weapons manufacturers, the church, and other key institutions of Ukrainian society.
Despite attempts to frame the content as humorous, these videos are part of russia’s information-psychological operations. Their goal is to subtly implant kremlin-directed messages in the minds of Ukrainians: distrust of the state, devaluation of defense efforts, and escalation of social tensions. A notable feature is that most accounts spreading these clips were created just a few months ago.
AI fakes are one of the main tools of modern russian influence operations. Their purpose is to blur the line between truth and falsehood, create information noise where real threats are hard to distinguish from fabricated ones, and undermine trust in Ukrainian institutions and defense efforts.
