“DPR” organized a “show on bones” for the anniversary of the downing of flight MH17

In the self-proclaimed “DPR,” a cynical “show on the bones” was staged to mark the anniversary of the downing of flight MH17.

On July 17, in the temporarily occupied part of Donetsk region, the “young guard of united russia” held a “memorial event” for the 11th anniversary of the MH17 tragedy — together with a priest and local collaborators, they laid flowers at a so-called “memorial,” organized a photo exhibition, and delivered speeches.

Despite the blatant cynicism, russian propaganda continues to shift the blame onto Ukraine for the deaths of 298 people, including 80 children.

MH17 was shot down on July 17, 2014, over the occupied territory of Donetsk by a missile from a russian-made Buk surface-to-air missile system. The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) confirmed that the Buk launcher had been brought from russian territory and returned after the attack. The missile was launched from an area controlled by russian-backed militants.

russia was also recognized as responsible for the downing by the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
In 2022, a Dutch court found militants igor girkin, sergey dubinsky, and leonid kharchenko guilty of shooting down MH17 and murdering the passengers and crew — sentencing them in absentia to life imprisonment.

In May 2025, the UN also demanded accountability for those responsible for the downing of the civilian airliner.

russia didn’t just shoot down a civilian aircraft — it has been lying about it for 11 years, distorting facts and manipulating the memory of the victims.

The Center for Countering Disinformation predicted on July 14, 2025, that Russian propaganda would intensify its spread of fakes and lies surrounding the MH17 tragedy.
