Russia’s cyberthreat is growing: Poland records attempted election interference
russia is escalating its hybrid aggression against Europe, using cyberattacks and disinformation to destabilize democratic processes. In particular, Poland has reported an unprecedented attempt by russia to interfere in the presidential elections.
▫️ Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digitalization Krzysztof Gwiazdowski noted that this is being carried out through the spread of disinformation combined with hybrid attacks on the country’s critical infrastructure – water utilities, combined heat and power plants, energy supply facilities, and government administration bodies. He emphasized that the level of russian cyber threat in Poland has more than doubled compared to last year.
russia has been using cyberattacks as a tool of pressure on European states for a long time. The Center reported that hackers linked to russia’s foreign intelligence service were sending phishing emails to employees of diplomatic institutions to destabilize Europe. The growth of cyber threats from russia was also reported by the Netherlands’ intelligence services.
