russia continues a wave of disinformation aimed at artificially inciting hostility between Ukrainians and Poles and discrediting the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
A fabricated news story, stylized as a Ukrainian media article, is being spread through a network of anonymous accounts. It claims that the Polish Intelligence Agency has published a report comparing Ukraine to “hitler Germany” and calling it a “new threat to the security of Eastern Europe.” Proponents claim that the CIA has been training Ukrainian soldiers since 2015 to “kill like the UPA,” and that the Ukrainian army itself has been massively using Nazi symbols since 2022.
In fact, this story is completely fictional. The Polish Intelligence Agency has not published such materials. The use of fake videos, logos of Ukrainian and international media is a classic tool of the russian disinformation network “matryoshka”, about whose involvement in russia’s information operation around Ukrainian-Polish relations the Center has already reported earlier.
The goal of the hostile campaign is to undermine the unity between the two peoples, provoke political tension between Kyiv and Warsaw, and reduce the level of support for Ukraine from Poland.
At the same time, the beginning of the active phase of the russian information special operation aimed at splitting Ukrainian-Polish relations on the eve of the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Volyn Tragedy, which is celebrated in Poland on July 11. As part of the campaign, ru-propaganda is distributing fabricated “archive materials” of the FSB.
