russia seeks to interfere in the parliamentary elections in Denmark

Danish intelligence services have warned of the risks of russian interference in the snap parliamentary elections scheduled for March 24 to renew the government’s mandate of confidence.

▫️ According to Danish intelligence assessments, the kremlin may exploit sensitive issues, including the matter of Greenland, to spread disinformation and create an atmosphere of uncertainty. russia’s primary objective would be to deepen societal divisions, discredit the incumbent authorities, and influence the country’s future political course, particularly with regard to support for Ukraine.

▫️ Denmark is one of Ukraine’s key partners and consistently supports sanctions policy against the russian federation. At the same time, for moscow, Denmark holds strategic importance in the context of maritime control and countering russia’s use of a “shadow fleet.”

The kremlin regularly interferes in elections in various countries and seeks to influence public opinion. To achieve this, russia draws on accumulated experience and adapts its methods to the local context, crafting narratives tailored to different social groups.

The Center previously reported on attempts by the pro-russian hacker group NoName057(16) to carry out cyberattacks against Danish government and defense structures ahead of local elections in 2025.
