▫️ vladimir medinsky, head of the russian delegation at the Istanbul negotiations, cynically called Ukraine’s demand for the return of kidnapped children “a show for European grandmothers.” At the same time, propagandists attempt to portray the deportation of children to russia as a “humanitarian mission” and a “rescue from shelling.”
▫️ Simultaneously, disinformation is being spread claiming that Ukraine itself is evacuating children from the combat zone to Europe, supposedly separating them from their parents. Attempts to shift public attention to fabricated “crimes of Ukraine” are a typical russian tactic to cover up their own illegal actions.
The deportation of civilians, especially children, from occupied territories without the consent of the legitimate authorities is a direct violation of the Geneva Conventions and is classified as a war crime. The children taken from Ukraine are transferred to russian families, with their documents, citizenship, and identity being changed. It was precisely for the deportation of children that the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for vladimir putin in 2023. This clearly confirms that children are not trophies of war.
