Key points from Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s remarks during events marking Ukraine’s Constitution Day:
▫️ Exactly 30 years ago, a vital pillar of our nation’s independence was established, when Ukrainians ceased to live under the old – and, above all, foreign – laws.
▫️ Any articles of the Constitution of Ukraine would be nothing more than words on paper without the millions of Ukrainians who are ready to defend our independence and our land.
▫️ The strength of Ukraine’s fundamental law lies not in the legal elegance of its articles, but in the genuine unity of the Ukrainian people.
▫️ Putin has struck 740 religious buildings in Ukraine. On the night of 15 June, he added the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and the Cathedral of the Assumption to the list.
▫️ The Lavra stands, St Sophia’s stands — therefore Kyiv stands. Ukraine stands. It stands and will prevail, because people are fighting and praying for it in every corner of our country.
▫️ Ukraine is strong. It is strong when the state, the church, our armed forces and the people of Ukraine stand as one.
▫️ Today I tabled a bill in parliament on the Ukrainian National Pantheon.
▫️ From now on, the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra will quite rightly house a bust of the great Ukrainian and patron of the Lavra — Ivan Mazepa.
▫️ At a time when Moscow did not yet exist, the Lavra was already there. It was a source of development, where Ukrainian history, education, science, our art and medicine were forged.
▫️ Ukraine will honour all its trusted friends and allies with a new state award — the Order of Europe.
