Kremlin moves away from total concealment of DPRK’s participation in the war
Russian propaganda attempts to deny the fact that the Ukrainian Defense Forces captured DPRK soldiers.
▫️ Propaganda sources circulate claims that either identify the prisoners as Russians from the Republic of Tuva, argue that they are South Koreans rather than North Koreans, or dismiss the video of their interrogation as staged.
At the same time, the Russian Federation promotes the narrative that “the alleged participation of DPRK troops in the war is legitimate, as it aligns with the strategic partnership agreement.”
Despite clear evidence of DPRK military involvement in the war on Russia’s side, the Kremlin does not officially acknowledge it. But the messaging is crafted to make Russian citizens understand that DPRK forces are fighting. This strategy allows the Kremlin to present its alliance with the DPRK as “Putin’s great geopolitical achievement” while calming public fears about mobilization.
