How Russia uses culture for propaganda in Germany

The Kremlin intentionally uses culture as a propaganda tool abroad. In Germany, the Russian House in Berlin, a so-called cultural center established by the governmental organization “Rossotrudnichestvo”, plays a significant role in this effort.

▪️ Recently, the Russian House in Berlin hosted a screening of the Russian play “Legends of the Invalidenstrasse” about “the life of old Odesa.” Although the event is formally apolitical, it subtly pushes the narrative that “Odesa is a Russian city” to the German audience, indirectly justifying the war against Ukraine.

Previously, this Russian House began screening the series “The Boy’s Word: Blood On The Asphalt”, which romanticizes crime and Russian “spiritual values.” It also organizes “language club” meetings, concerts, and other cultural events, which in reality serve as a cover for information influence operations, including interference in German elections.
