Attack on Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra: how russia manipulates foreign media articles

russian propaganda, as part of a large-scale disinformation campaign aimed at shifting the blame for the attack on the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra away from russia, has launched a wave of manipulations with the key narrative that “the world supports the russian version of events”.

In particular, hostile resources are massively citing an article from an Italian publication as “proof” that the version of the fire at the Lavra due to a “falling Patriot missile” has supposedly been recognized in Europe.

In fact, this material is based solely on quoting russian official spokespersons and outright manipulations. The article does not contain a single objective fact or references to independent sources, and the resource itself has repeatedly spread russian fakes.

In parallel, propagandists are resorting to gross manipulations around the coverage of the tragedy in the world media. The appearance on the front pages of leading European publications of information about the shelling of the Lavra on the eve of the G7 summit, hostile resources are trying to present as a “planned action by Kyiv” to obtain additional military assistance. In this way, hostile propaganda is trying to turn an obvious war crime of russia into a conspiracy theory, where the destruction of a world-famous shrine is portrayed as “beneficial” for Ukraine.

However, despite all of russia’s manipulations, the fact remains that the entire responsibility for the terrorist attack on the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and the destruction of Ukrainian cultural heritage lies solely with the russian federation.
