The lie about the “Scythian gold”: russia opens an exhibition in the US
The kremlin continues its propaganda campaign, attempting to impose an alternative narrative on the world regarding the “Scythian gold.” russian diplomats opened a photo exhibition at the russian embassy in Washington provocatively titled “Crimean Gold: ‘Civilized’ Europe Plunders russian Treasures.”
▫️russia’s claims that the historical artifacts were “stolen” are completely unfounded. In 2023, after nearly a decade of legal proceedings, the Supreme Court of the Netherlands finally ruled that the collection of artifacts known as the “Scythian gold” belongs to the State Museum Fund of Ukraine, rather than to museums in Crimea occupied by russia. In November 2023, the collection was officially and lawfully returned to Kyiv.
▫️Through such propaganda events, the kremlin seeks to create a false perception among Western audiences that the lawful court decision to return the “Scythian gold” to Ukraine was an act of “plunder.”
The Center previously reported on a similar manipulative exhibition held by russia in moscow. Now, the kremlin is attempting to export this propaganda tool to the West.
