France prepares for an increase in russian hybrid attacks

French intelligence services warn that countries must be prepared for hybrid attacks by russia to become more direct and violent.

The head of France’s General Directorate for Internal Security (DGSI), Céline Berthon, said that the hybrid threat from the kremlin is entering a new phase. According to her, European countries should take into account the high likelihood of direct acts of sabotage on their territory.

As an example of the escalating threat, the head of the French intelligence service cited the discovery of an explosive drone at Leipzig Airport in Germany. The drone most likely intended to attack an aircraft involved in supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The DGSI stresses that potential targets in France include not only the defence sector, but also the entire network of contractors supporting the defence-industrial base, as well as strategic sectors such as energy and communications.

russia’s hybrid operations are becoming an increasingly serious challenge to the security of Europe as a whole. At the same time, European governments clearly recognise the scale of this threat and are actively working to improve response mechanisms, strengthen the protection of critical infrastructure and prevent russian acts of sabotage.
