russia’s crimes in Bucha: the kremlin launches another wave of lies
russia has launched another stage of an information campaign aimed at discrediting international investigations and denying the war crimes committed by the russian army in Bucha.
russian foreign ministry spokesperson maria zakharova made a number of manipulative statements during a press conference, accusing the UN Secretariat and the Secretary-General of «playing along with the anti-russian campaign» by allegedly failing to provide a list of those killed in Bucha. She also once again described the mass killings of civilians as a «provocation ordered by Britain» and claimed that Ukraine is allegedly presenting «eliminated militants from nationalist battalions» as dead civilians.
Such attacks against the UN are a classic propaganda tactic of distorting the facts. By attempting to shift attention away from the mass killings of civilians by russian servicemen, the kremlin seeks to cast doubt on extensive photographic and video evidence, testimonies from local residents, forensic evidence and the findings of international organisations.
The systematic denial of atrocities in Bucha, Irpin, Izium and other de-occupied cities is part of russia’s broader strategy. In this way, the kremlin regime seeks to create an information alibi, undermine the evidence base for future international tribunals and avoid accountability for war crimes.
