russian special services launch a sabotage campaign in Europe

russia has launched a campaign of sabotage against European businesses. Western media, citing intelligence data, report that the kremlin is recruiting criminals to carry out acts of sabotage at defence industry facilities.

In Slovakia, an arson attempt took place at a drone manufacturing plant belonging to the Ukrainian company Skyeton in the city of Prešov, which may have been part of this campaign. Police prevented the crime and detained the suspects. The investigation is establishing the motives and circumstances of the incident.

This is not the first military plant in Europe to be targeted by acts of sabotage. The Centre previously reported that Estonian authorities were investigating russia’s involvement in a fire at the military robotics manufacturing plant of Milrem Robotics. There were also reports of a powerful explosion at a military ammunition plant near Rome and a fire at a military plant in Bulgaria.

It should be noted that a special military unit of Russia’s GRU, Unit 29155, is responsible for acts of sabotage abroad. It consists of around 400 intelligence officers. They are responsible for illegal operations abroad, including explosions at ammunition depots and military plants, assassination attempts, poisonings and acts of sabotage.

In response to these hybrid threats, Western partners are already strengthening security at critical facilities, expanding intelligence cooperation and preparing measures to counter russian provocations.
