Fake “Ukrainian souvenir axes” bearing the slogan “we can do it again”

The Center has identified a new wave of russian disinformation aimed at artificially inciting hostility between Ukrainians and Poles through the use of AI-generated content.

▫️ In the Polish segment of social media, a network of anonymous accounts is actively spreading images of axes bearing the inscription “1943” and slogans such as “we can do it again.” Enemy resources and kremlin trolls claim that such “souvenirs” are allegedly being mass-produced and sold in Ukraine as a mockery of the victims of the Volhynia tragedy.

In reality, these images are fake. As confirmed by the reputable Polish fact-checking platforms Demagog and Konkret24, all of the images were generated using artificial intelligence based on a photograph of an axe that is actually sold in Poland.

The purpose of this provocation is to demonize the Ukrainian people, provoke a strong emotional reaction, and frighten European audiences with the false narrative of “Ukrainian radicalism.” The kremlin seeks to fuel political tensions between Kyiv and Warsaw in order to weaken logistical and defense support for Ukraine.

The Center has previously reported that russian intelligence services systematically exploit sensitive historical issues involving Ukraine and Poland by using AI-generated content and digital forgeries to incite interethnic hostility.
