ru-propaganda spreads FSB’s claim about “foiling a Ukrainian–British provocation in Romania”
russian propaganda is actively spreading a statement by the russian fsb claiming the alleged disruption of a Ukrainian-British special operation to stage a “provocation in Romania.”
▫ According to the fsb, Ukrainians allegedly planned to steal a russian MiG-31 aircraft equipped with a “Kinzhal” missile in order to “carry out a provocation at NATO’s largest base in Constanta, Romania.”
The spread of such false accusations is a typical tactic of russian intelligence services. Previously, russia’s foreign intelligence service and its head sergey naryshkin repeatedly circulated “sensational exposes” claiming that Ukraine, together with the UK, was allegedly preparing “bloody provocations” in the Baltic Sea, Poland, and other NATO countries. However, after multiple failures and a crisis of credibility, such falsehoods are now voiced by the fsb, led by another aging long-time putin ally, alexander bortnikov.
Such disinformation campaigns are regularly spread to intimidate Western societies with the illusion of danger from supporting Ukraine. They are part of the kremlin’s efforts to undermine military assistance to Ukraine from its allies.
