russia plans to replenish its troops with expelled cadets

In russia’s state duma, lawmakers plan to propose that expelled students from military academies go to war against Ukraine instead of reimbursing the state for their education. Previously, such a practice for expelled students had not been applied.

The proposal targets those expelled for poor academic performance or misconduct, as well as those who refuse to serve after graduation. These cadets will be given a choice: either repay the state a hefty sum—one that will be unaffordable for most—or be sent to war.

Additionally, this decision could open the door to abuses within military academies, as finding a reason to expel a cadet would not be difficult if desired.

With this move, the kremlin is trying to enlist even more people for its war against Ukraine to compensate for its heavy losses.
