kremlin loses control over Abkhazia?
Anti-russian protests have erupted in Abkhazia, a region that has been under russian occupation for more than 30 years. The protests were sparked by opposition to an investment agreement with russia, pushed by the self-proclaimed republic’s proxy government. Abkhazians are aware that russian “investment” is really expansion and takeovers.
As russia remains focused on its war against Ukraine, it is losing grip on its separatist enclaves in other countries. Despite decades of ideological indoctrination, moscow has failed to make the people of Abkhazia “russian”.
