russia isolates its population under the pretext of “fighting fraud”

The kremlin is blocking calls on WhatsApp and Telegram, claiming to “protect the population from fraud.” However, even official data from the russian central bank for 2024 contradict these arguments: nearly 50% of fraud schemes occur through regular phone calls and SMS, while only 15.7% involve messengers.

◻️ These actions by russia are not about security, but about control. If the authorities were truly concerned about fraud, they would take real measures to combat criminals instead of blocking internet calls. The blow is aimed at the main communication tool of the population, including in temporarily occupied territories.

◻️ Currently, in the temporarily occupied territories, communication via messengers is being actively blocked, indicating the authorities’ attempt to isolate people from truthful news and communication with relatives. In Viber, Telegram, or WhatsApp, the interlocutor can only be heard in fragments, even with VPN enabled.

moscow continues its policy of total censorship, intensifying information isolation and attempting to fully control the information space.
