Putin is tightening the screws out of fear of rebellion and betrayal
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has signed several laws aimed at tightening control within the country. These laws, which propaganda describes as measures to “protect sovereignty,” are, in fact, an attempt to safeguard the regime from new threats, such as Prigozhin’s march on Moscow.
▫️ Participation in an armed rebellion is now punishable by 15 to 20 years in prison.
▫️ Those convicted of terrorism or armed rebellion will no longer be eligible for conditional release.
▫️ Foreign nationals who assist in attempts to undermine Russia’s security face up to 15 years in prison.
▫️ Criminal liability for crimes against military service was introduced for volunteers, including desertion, insubordination, and the destruction of military property.
The adoption and signing of these laws confirm that the Kremlin is increasingly fearful of internal threats and is attempting to shield itself through legislation. However, this pressure will inevitably lead to the destabilization of the domestic political situation and, ultimately, the fall of Putin’s regime.
