How the war against Ukraine leaves Russians without higher education
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin made several statements at a meeting of the Russian Council for Science and Education, signaling his intent to complicate the process of getting higher education in Russia.
▫️ According to Putin, by 2029, the highest demand in Russia will be for specialists with secondary vocational education. As a result, starting in 2026, measures will be introduced to “improve the quality of paid university admissions,” raise entry requirements for pedagogical universities, implement “hybrid forms of education,” and more.
Facing a severe labor shortage in both the army and the military-industrial complex due to the war against Ukraine, the Kremlin seeks to reshape the education system. By limiting access to higher education, Putin aims to push more people into vocational training or force them to go to the war to “earn” money.
Every step the Kremlin takes is geared toward militarizing society and restructuring the economy to sustain future wars.
