How Russian government manipulates economic statistics figures
Russian media actively cover the demonstrative report of Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin to dictator Vladimir Putin on the situation in the Russian economy.
▫️ Mishustin’s report contains traditional propaganda narratives: “Russia has successfully handled the sanctions”, “GDP growth is higher than expected and higher than in the United States”, “incomes and industrial production are growing”, etc.
Such reports about the “success of the Russian economy” are made solely for propaganda purposes to convince the population of Russia that their lives are “improving” and are based on manipulations with statistics.
In fact, the actual GDP growth is the result of the Russian military-industrial complex working for the war against Ukraine, the growth of value added in the non-productive sphere and other indicators. However, according to independent Russian experts, real production in Russia is currently on the verge of stagnation. Certain industries, such as coal mining, metallurgy, etc., are experiencing a steady decline amid sanctions and high inflation. Also, a large number of Russian companies are on the verge of bankruptcy.
The Russian authorities are forced to resort to manipulations to hide the real state of the economy from people.
