How the Kremlin promotes war propaganda books to schoolchildren
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has personally instructed that «patriotic works by contemporary authors» be included in the extracurricular reading lists for pupils.
This refers to so-called propagandist «Z-literature», which justifies the war against Ukraine and fosters hatred toward Ukrainians and the West.
Despite the propaganda efforts, such literature has limited appeal within Russia. However, it is mass-produced, published, and distributed using the state budget.
This initiative is part of a large-scale, deliberate campaign by Russia to militarise school education and upbringing. The goal is to raise a new generation of Russians steeped in hatred toward Ukraine and the West, ready to support future wars of aggression.
