Why ru-propaganda talks about “African investments” in Crimea
russian propaganda is actively covering the visit of the ambassadors of Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger to occupied Crimea, presenting it as a “diplomatic breakthrough” and the start of “investment cooperation.”
▫️ The three mentioned African countries are among the poorest in the world, with budgets largely dependent on external aid. Expecting serious investments in Crimea, which is under sanctions, is at least naive.
▫️ Such meetings have no real economic meaning and are used solely for informational purposes: the kremlin seeks to simulate “international recognition” of the occupied peninsula and create the illusion of economic development prospects.
Such statements about “cooperation plans” are intended to convince the russian audience and the population of the occupied peninsula that Crimea is “not isolated.” In reality, any projects with African countries are limited to symbolic gestures and propaganda.
