Residents of the TOT are being turned into Putin’s serfs
russian state duma has passed amendments allowing the revocation of russian citizenship for refusing to register for military service, as well as for crimes such as murder and treason. However, these provisions do not apply to residents of the temporarily occupied territories (TOT) of Ukraine. Even if they refuse to fight, the imposed russian citizenship will remain.
In this way, russia strips people of their right to choose and effectively holds Ukrainian citizens in TOT hostage.
The main goal of this move is accelerated forced passportization and the complete erasure of Ukrainian identity. kremlin coerces people into accepting russian passports under threat of deportation, arrest, or loss of property. Men, in particular, are viewed as a mobilization resource for russia’s war against Ukraine.
These actions are a direct violation of international law and fundamental human rights. russian authorities do not treat Ukrainians in TOT as citizens — only as tools to fulfill imperial ambitions.
