Manipulation of Nazi symbols in Ukraine
Hostile Telegram channels are spreading a photo from Kyiv showing a man holding a flag in the colors of the Ukrainian banner with a swastika. Propagandists are presenting this as a “common occurrence” in Ukraine.
In reality, Kyiv police have already arrested two foreigners who were displaying prohibited symbols in the streets of the capital. Additional evidence was found in their home, including clothing, a flag, and a patch with nazi symbols.
A criminal investigation has been opened under Article 436-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (manufacturing, distribution, and propaganda of nazism or communism). The offenders face up to five years in prison with confiscation of property.
The goal of this manipulation is to discredit Ukraine in the eyes of the international community. Propagandists are trying to create the impression that nazism is openly supported in Ukraine, and the authorities supposedly do not respond to such displays.
This is part of a broader information campaign aimed at justifying russia’s aggression, tarnishing Ukrainian society, and reducing international support for Ukraine.
