Fake “Ukrainian Armed Forces” — Russia’s new AI operation
The Center has detected the continuation of russia’s information operation using AI-generated content on social media. The campaign aims to convince Ukrainians that the Ukrainian authorities “don’t want peace”.
After a series of videosfeaturing “ordinary Ukrainians” accusing the Ukrainian authorities of “sabotaging peace”, Russia has launched a wave of AI-generated content, where the main characters are individuals in Ukrainian military uniforms.
In these videos, generated “Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers” express manipulative messages that “the authorities don’t want to stop the war”. The videos simulate emotional appeals from the frontline.
The aim of the campaign is to demoralize the servicemen of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and discredit the country’s top leadership.
Previously, the Center detected similar campaigns using AI-generated avatars of “ordinary Ukrainians”, aimed at promoting the narrative of “peace at any cost”.
