Fake about the “capture of Kupiansk” by the Russian army
Information about the “capture of Kupiansk” by the russian army is fake.
Pro-russian sources are massively spreading statements by russia’s chief of the general staff, valery gerasimov, claiming “full control of Kupiansk” and the “destruction of the Ukrainian garrison.”
In reality, this is yet another lie from russia’s military-political leadership. Ukraine’s General Staff has refuted the fake and confirmed that Kupiansk remains under the control of the Defence Forces of Ukraine.
The head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, Defence Forces officer Andrii Kovalenko, also denied gerasimov’s claims, stressing that russia has NOT occupied Kupiansk.
The goal of this russian information operation is to conceal its own critical losses in the Kupiansk and Pokrovsk directions, create an illusion of “successes” amid real failures, and distract from thousands of killed soldiers.
Earlier, russian propaganda circulated fakes about the alleged encirclement of Ukrainian troops in Kupiansk and even brought foreign journalists there.
