russian propaganda is spreading a fake about an alleged “pro-russian underground sabotage” on the railway in Odesa region.
▫️ Hostile social media accounts are sharing a photo of a train after an accident, claiming it shows a railway explosion in Odesa region allegedly carried out by “partisans sympathetic to russia.” According to their version, the train was carrying “Western military aid and fuel.”
In reality, this photo refers to a completely different event. The image circulated by russians was taken in russia’s leningrad region after a railway accident on the night of September 14, caused by an explosion. At that time, a locomotive and 15 fuel tanks were destroyed.
▫️ Some outlets also illustrate the claim of a “train blown up by pro-russian saboteurs” with a photo that actually shows the aftermath of a russian strike on railway infrastructure in Odesa region.
kremlin’s attempts to impose the image of fictional pro-russian partisans on the Ukrainian audience are not new. russia has repeatedly manipulated accidents in Ukraine, presenting them as “sabotage in favor of moscow.” In this way, the kremlin seeks to create an illusion of support for the “russian world” in Ukraine and justify its armed aggression.
