russian media are massively spreading the “news” that “the West has recognized russia’s victory in cyberwar against Ukraine.” They cite the English-language site Strategic Culture as the source of this “sensation.”
▫️In reality, Strategic Culture is not a Western media outlet, but a russian propaganda resource registered in the .su domain (former ussr). As early as 2019, the European project EU vs Disinfo noted that the site disguises itself as an “analytical center,” but is actually run from russia, with authors promoting kremlin narratives ranging from “NATO provocations” to denial of responsibility for the downing of flight MH17.
▫️The article cited by kremlin media claims an alleged “hack of Ukrainian government servers” and “1.7 million Ukrainian military casualties.” The Center has debunked this fake.
The goal of this campaign is simple: to create the illusion of international recognition of “russia’s successes,” reinforcing falsehoods with supposedly “independent Western sources.” In this way, the enemy seeks to undermine trust in Ukraine’s cyber defense and demoralize society.
