Putin is forced to seek favor with the new Syrian government
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa, in which he confirmed his “readiness to contribute to the improvement of the socio-economic situation in Syria.” However, ru-propaganda again fails to provide any practical results of these talks.
After the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, the Kremlin is trying to get the new Syrian government to keep Russian military bases. Despite the soft rhetoric of the new Syrian government towards Russia, the issue of preserving Russian bases has not yet moved forward.
Military bases in Syria are critically important for Putin to maintain influence in the Middle East and Africa. Therefore, Russia must engage in a dialogue with its former enemies at the highest level to maintain its military presence in the country.
