russia launches a series of fake stories to fuel hostility between Ukraine and Poland
The Center has detected a new wave of russian disinformation aimed at artificially fueling hostility between Ukrainians and Poles.
In particular, the following fake claims are being spread through a network of anonymous accounts:
▪️ “The director of the Auschwitz Museum called for Volodymyr Zelenskyy not to be invited to commemorative events because of the glorification of Nazis.”
▪️ “Ukraine will name several more military units after UPA heroes to spite Poland.”
▪️ “Polish mercenaries serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine are dying due to internal conflicts based on Nazism.”
These fakes are styled as materials from well-known Western media outlets and an influential think tank. However, no such publications exist on their official platforms.
At the same time, enemy propaganda is spreading fabricated front pages of European newspapers with headlines about worsening relations between Ukraine and Poland and “Ukrainian Nazism.” The actual front pages of these newspapers contain different publications.
The use of fake videos, logos, and front pages of international media is a classic tool of russia’s disinformation network “Matryoshka”.
The goal of the hostile campaign is to undermine unity between the two nations, provoke political tensions between Kyiv and Warsaw, and reduce Poland’s support for Ukraine.
The involvement of the “Matryoshka” network clearly indicates the russian state’s role in this campaign. russia is not simply observing the situation — it is deliberately investing resources into fueling conflict in order to weaken and destabilize both Ukraine and Poland.
