CIA warned EU about threat of russian drones from the Mediterranean Sea
russia may carry out strikes against Southern European countries using «Gerbera» drones launched from «shadow fleet» vessels in the Mediterranean Sea.
The US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has already informed European governments about this. According to intelligence, russians plan to use UAVs hidden in standard cargo containers on civilian merchant vessels. These drones, weighing up to 18 kg, are launched using a compact catapult. They have a range of up to 600 km and a speed of around 160 km/h, potentially allowing them to reach Spain, southern France or Italy within several hours.
According to the intelligence agency’s warning, possible scenarios for using such drones include disrupting airport operations, arson attacks, conducting reconnaissance over military facilities and intimidating the European rear. The governments of Spain, France and Italy have already been informed about possible kremlin provocations.
This information once again proves that russia views the «shadow fleet» as a platform for carrying out hybrid attacks and sabotage. The use of vessels to launch drones poses a direct threat to civilian and military infrastructure in the EU and requires increased control over shipping in the Mediterranean Sea.
