Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation and an officer in the Ukrainian Defense Forces, along with representatives of the Center, met with American media figure Lora Loomer.

The parties discussed russian disinformation and information influence campaigns, their adaptation to different audiences, as well as Ukraine’s experience in countering the russian federation’s sustained and coordinated operations.

Special attention was given to russian crimes against the church, including the destruction of churches, the murder of priests, as well as Russia’s abduction and militarization of Ukrainian children.

Another topic was the projection of russia’s internal problems onto other states. kremlin propaganda attributes the authoritarianism, corruption, repression, and restrictions on rights and freedoms characteristic of russia itself to Ukraine, the United States, and other democratic countries. In this way, moscow diverts attention from the situation within russia and undermines trust in democratic institutions.

Andriy Kovalenko emphasized that the russian propaganda apparatus is constantly adapting to new technologies and platforms. Therefore, it is important to deepen cooperation with Google, Meta, TikTok, and other technology companies, improve mechanisms to counter destructive content, and impose sanctions on individuals and entities involved in russia’s influence operations.

For her part, Lora Loomer drew attention to the weaponization of information and its use to interfere in political and civic processes. She also spoke about russian influence in the United States, the exploitation of internal divisions, and the need for timely detection of disinformation networks.

Separately, the parties discussed the growing role of artificial intelligence. AI technologies are already helping to detect and analyze disinformation, but at the same time are being used to create manipulative content, scale influence operations, and target specific audiences more precisely.

The Center highly values the support of the United States and will continue to deepen ties and cooperation with American partners in the field of countering disinformation and information threats.
